What in the Middle Ages was the 1st salt-producing region in Christendom has now given way to a superb, unspoilt natural environment, a veritable sanctuary for wildlife.

Canoeing and walking remain the best means of access to this lake region of large flat expanses, hidden by veritable “walls” of reeds. Canoeing is man finding his roots: water, nature and the freedom of gentle movement.
